Are you tired of raising a big row crop garden—one that keeps you busy from dawn until dusk? Many folks love blueberries, whether they are used in whole wheat muffins, fresh in cereal, or over ice cream. Several years ago my sister and her husband had an 8-horse gas-powered rototiller that went belly up. There are mountains of old tires out there. Americans keep on rolling and tires keep on wearing out.

Every year there is almost one scrap tire created for every man, woman, and child in the United States. Along with raising food plants, I like to tuck in a few flowers — both annuals and perennials. Gardeners are an ingenious lot. Trial and error, time, study, observation, and experience all help us to come up with ideas that result in better gardens, more produce, less labor, and more enjoyment of our homesteading efforts. I would be able to keep more of them in a smaller area.
